He was 48.

According to Somandla, they started recording together in 1988 and that’s the time they became friends.

Somandla arrived at Matsito’s homestead in Kuwadzana 5 in the afternoon yesterday and said he was saddened by the Gede singer’s death.

The Denda Brothers leader urged fellow musicians to chip in to help the family since Matsito was no longer working because of illness.

“I am actually shocked that Matsito died, I never thought he was going to die soon.

“It has happened too soon because we are still mourning Tuku, we have been robbed again.

“I can’t believe he has gone and I never expected this to have happened, however Matsito was battling with life for a long period, God has done his will.

“It hurts but that’s our way, our industry is different from other trades in the sense that if you don’t hold shows you will not get anything to put on the table.

“I wonder how Matsito was surviving with his condition,” he said.

He added:

“We started recording in 1988 together when we recorded seven singles and after that we then recorded albums.

“Matsito went on to record more albums.”

Somandla has also praised the late Matsito for his unique style as well as his voice.“Matsito had his own style and no one has managed to imitate him.

“His voice was also distinctive from others and he has managed to record albums which managed to hold on their own.

“The gap which he left will take time to fill and it will be difficult to get someone like Matsito.

“Let him rest in peace and he will be forever missed.”

Somandla also told this publication that he will still with the family in thick and thin in a bid to fill the void which has been left by Matsito.

“As musicians we should have a fund to assist musicians who will be in the problems like which Matsito was in.

“We should all contribute towards this funeral because you can see yourself Matsito was no longer able to fend for himself and the family.” H-Metro
