Dzamara turns heat on police

By Farayi Machamire

Pro-democracy activist Patson Dzamara has threatened to drag police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri to court over his subordinates’ failure to provide any leads into the disappearance of his brother Itai who has been missing for 17 months now.

In a strongly-worded petition copied to minister of Home Affairs Ignatius Chombo, Dzamara came out guns blazing against authorities.

Despite the High Court having ordered police to find Itai, there has been no headway made thus far.

Thus, an angry Patson said his brother’s family feels the matter is not being pursued with the urgency it deserves leaving them to conclude that law enforcement agents had a hand in the abduction.

“I have never minced my words regarding the fingerprints of State security agents particularly the military intelligence in the abduction of Itai Dzamara,” Dzamara said in the petition.

“It’s now 17 months and there hasn’t been any headway whatsoever from the purported investigations being carried out by ZRP. That is curious and unfortunate,” he added.

The 30-year-old further accused the police of not acting in good faith.

“To date, you, as the head of ZRP and your organisation at large have done virtually nothing to assist us as a family to at least unearth what happened to Itai and hopefully come to a place of closure,” he said. Daily News
