Controversial artiste Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, who was propelled to national prominence by her gospel hits, is expected to perform at music producer Oskid’s party to be hosted by Club Archies today.

The party, being organised by DJ Sammy, is meant to celebrate four awards recently won by 23-year-old Oskid, whose real name is Prince Tapfuma.

Oskid walked away with accolades for best music producer at the Midlands Music Awards, Star FM Awards, Zimbabwe Music Awards and the Zimdancehall Awards.

The Gweru-born producer told the Daily News that he has invited several musicians he has worked with to make cameo performances at his celebratory gig.

“To celebrate the awards that I won, I have invited a number of artistes I have worked with including Fungisai, Shinsoman, Dobba Don, Ba-Shupi, Skatta and Judah B from Gweru. All the artistes who will turn up will get the chance to perform briefly.

“I feel very honoured and as such I want to share this happy moment with musicians I have had the honour of working with. Despite the critical role played by music producers, their important contribution is often taken for granted in this country,” said Oskid.

Even though he landed four music awards this past year, the young producer feels he still has a long way to go.

“I always knew that I would get this far and be this successful. There was a time when I felt ashamed of the sound that was coming out of Zimbabwe but I think I have played my part along with other producers to take our music to a higher level.

“I am not the best I can be yet but I will get there with hard work. I will work hard to get there,” said the ex-KeNako Muzik producer.

Fungisai, who recently threatened to quit music due to what she described as “cyber bulling,” has been invited because Oskid produced her duet with Killer T titled Vanondibatirana which landed the Best Collaboration Award at the Zimdamcehall Awards.

The Makomborero singer refused to comment on the matter when the Daily News contacted her. If she performs at Club Archies, it won’t be her first time to perform in a bar. Last month, Fungisai performed at Bar Rouge which is located at Long Cheng Plaza.

Fungisai has in the past insisted that she is much more than a gospel artiste.

“I sing gospel which I package differently to appeal to different audiences, however, I am not limited to just Christian songs because as a professional musician, I have the responsibility to impact on everyone who looks up to me for inspiration.

“I need no prefix to my creative art and I will not be cocooned by any social barriers.

“The music industry is my work place where I get to work with people from different social back grounds, religious systems with a common ground to develop our music industry,” she said. Daily News
