Outside the usual places like Mereki, Zindoga, KwaFatso or KuHuku where people go out for BBQs and drinks, there is a new hangout located at Lake Chivero off Harare-Bulawayo Road.

Besides the scenic view of the water the place also has wild animals and people can tour the lakeside facility on horseback and admire wildlife.

The lush green lawn and the cool ambience make the venue an attractive getaway for couples, family functions, church gatherings and even business conferences.

Last Wednesday, the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority hosted musicians so that they could have a feel of the other side of Lake Chivero.

Some of the musicians who toured the must-see venue include Winky D, Trevor D, Mac Dee, Soul Jah Love, Suluman Chimbetu and Somandla Ndebele.

The musicians also took part in some of the activities that are offered such as horse riding and game drives before they were treated to braai.

National Parks public relations manager Caroline Washaya Moyo said the tour was part of their 2015 goal to make people understand the other side of Lake Chivero.

“We want people to appreciate the other side of Chivero. We have had different stories of people enjoying, having parties at Lake Chivero, with some pictures being published in the press but a lot is unheard of, on this angle. It is just the same place but with different spirit,” she said.

She said they invited musicians because they have a role to play in terms of promoting tourism.

“Musicians can help us market and promote different places because they are so connected with the people. They help us to drive towards our goal.

I am happy with the turnout of musicians and promise to continue working with them in the wildlife and environmental section,” she said.

Dancehall artiste Winky D ( Ninja President) said he was happy to take part as it was his first time at the place.

“I only knew of the other side of Lake which is very common with many. I have enjoyed the activities and it was my first time too to ride a horse,” he said.

The “Takaipa Takaipa” hitmaker said he is happy that Zimbabwe is a beautiful country with nice places.

Dendera maestro Suluman Chimbetu promised to bring his family and friends for a treat.

“Honestly I am humbled by such beauty.

It is a cool environment and I want to have fun with my family and friends the next time we plan for a gathering.

If resources permit I would love to bring some of my fans here to witness such splendid environment. We only know of the other side.

I am happy that I have managed to ride a horse, as it was my first time too,” he said. The Herald
