Fatso and Outspoken (real names Samm Monro and Tongai Makawa) are part of a delegation of five leading Zimbabwean filmmakers, artists and cultural producers on a US media entrepreneurship leadership exchange programme.

The trip will take the two pioneering artists behind Zimbabwe’s leading satirical news show for meetings in Hollywood and Los Angeles with big names in the TV and Film industry such as Relativity Media, the Africa Channel and many more.

The delegation includes Elton Mjanana (ZIFF Festival Coordinator), Nqobizitha Mlilo (Founder, Nafuna TV), Priscilla Ncube (Ibhayisikopo Film Project), Zaza Ndlovu (Director, BrandZA).

The delegation will also travel to the new Silicon Valley in North Carolina to visit leading cultural hubs, arts venues and film companies.

While in LA and Hollywood they are set to also meet leading film and TV companies as well as progressive organisations working in Hip Hop and activism.

The meetings are certain to be hugely beneficial to Comrade Fatso and Outspoken and their organisation Magamba Network.

Magamba’s flagship projects include Shoko Festival, Zimbabwe’s fastest growing international festival; KalabashMedia.com, one of the country’s leading youth opinion blogs; and Zambezi News, the hugely popular satirical news show.

Comrade Fatso said, “This trip will be an amazing networking opportunity for us at Magamba. We will build links in the US TV and film industry for Zambezi News, create networks with media organisations for Kalabash and of course build some real synergies for Shoko Festival through linking with the many fantastic arts organisations we will meet.”
