MOSES “Bambo” Chunga labelled the leadership at Chiredzi FC “fish mongers” after two quick second-half goals by Dominic Chungwa and Hardlife Zvirekwi gave CAPS United their first away win of the season against his side in this Castle Lager Premiership soccer match at Chishamiso yesterday.

Chunga was furious at the team’s leadership than the outcome of the game and he was quick to defend his squad for the defeat.

“Football is a mind game and just imagine if you have not received any payment by now and expect to win. The boys are not focused and cannot concentrate. That is why they are missing easy chances and conceding silly goals.

“I put all the blame to myself because I am the one who co-operated with people I thought can run football not knowing that they are fish mongers,” Chunga said.

Both teams created a number of chances in the first half but Chiredzi had better scoring opportunities.

CAPS United won their first corner inside the first minute which saw Ronald Pfumbidzai’s cross finding Pervington Zimunya who gailed to make contact with the ball as this chance went begging.

Zimunya had his own effort from the right flank cleared by Tawanda Mpungu three minutes later.

Chiredzi’s first real attack came in the 7th minute when the evergreen Mpungu overlapped and fed the ball to Tapiwa Dhepistara whose effort went wide.

Kenneth Matogo wasted another chance to put the hosts in front when he failed to connect a pinpoint cross from Dhepistara in the 26th minute.

A minute later Mpungu, who was on top of his game, saw his goal-bound shot from an acute angle cleared for a corner by Steven Makatuka.

The visitors almost opened the scoring in the 46th minute but Zimunya failed to direct his header home following a cross from Chungwa.

Abel Gwatidzo shot over the bar after a goalmouth scramble in the 50th minute.

Chiredzi missed the chance to go in front nine minutes later when substitute Malvern Gaki switched the ball to Dhepistara whose thunderbolt was blocked by Joram Muchambo.

Muchambo’s ball fell into the legs of Munyaradzi Chiwara but the young midfielder shot into Makatuka when it looked difficult to miss than to score.

CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro then took off Gerald Phiri for Takudzwa Mahori in the 65th minute and the decision paid dividends as the midfielder changed the complexion of the game.

Chungwa scored against his former team and had wild celebrations when he beat an off-side trap and ran half the length of the pitch before poking the ball into the net through Steven Chimusoro’s legs in the 68th minute.

Zvirekwi added CAPS United’s second goal three minutes later with a low shot, ending Chiredzi’s hopes of salvaging a point in this match after benefiting from substitute Mahori’s searching cross.

CAPS United coach Mangwiro was happy to collect his first set of points away from Harare.

“The overall perfomance was good and I am happy because we could not afford to continue dropping points away from home,” Mangwiro said.

“Our game plan worked because we managed to hold them to the halfway mark and scored at the critical stages of the game,” he added. The Herald
