Harare – Zanu PF provincial chairman Temba Mliswa has again attacked Information Minister Jonathan Moyo asking the question if he is serious about corruption “why is someone like George Charamba who was involved in the PSMAS board, still working under him?”

The remarks were captured in a recorded phone conversation between political commentator Outspoken Goto Mato and Mliswa last week. Mato called Mliswa to commend him for his stance on corruption and asked how it can be tackled.

“Its important to stand strong and expose it but you don’t want to make it like an activist, you are dealing with corruption, let everyone account, even ministers must account like I have said,” the Hurungwe West MP said.

“Even Professor Moyo, if its true about corruption, then why is someone like George Charamba who was involved in the PSMAS board, still working under him?”

Charamba, President Robert Mugabe’s spokesman, raked in over $100 000 last year from the scandal-ridden Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) despite claiming he was the least paid person on the board.

Charamba was a mega-earner, getting US$10 357,50 in January 2013, US$10 207,50 in February, US$8 107,50 in March, US$8 770 in April, US$8 895 in May, US$8 270 in June, US$8 895 in July, US$8 270 in August and September, US$12 190 in October, US$8 270 in November and US$8 895 in December.

Charamba who doubles up as presidential spokesman and Permanent Secretary in the Information Ministry was a key board member, including serving on the finance and budget committee that approved Psmas CEO Cuthbert Dube’s obscene US$500 000 in monthly salaries, benefits and allowances.

Meanwhile Goto Mato asked Mliswa if President Mugabe was also not involved in corruption? Mliswa’s answer was “No I think he has also spoken against it, so it’s for us to act.”
