Former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa’s daughter, m’Diwa Mliswa Chanetsa, was on Wednesday denied bail after being arrested for the illegal possession of crystal meth.

She will be held in custody until trial commences on March 12, 2024.

The investigating officer of the case, Peter Tendai Mandina has opposed her bail citing that, “If she is released on bail there is likelihood that she might continue selling the dangerous drug to the community since she is not gainfully employed.”

Mliswa said his daughter must face the consequences of her actions and expressed his hope that the law takes its course as a passage towards her rehabilitation. He also stated his position against drug abuse.

“I remain an advocate against drugs and substance abuse. As you read, my daughter was found with drugs together with her boyfriend. The law must take its course,” the former MP said in a video he shared with Nehanda Radio.

She is injuring herself and others. So, I would not want other people to be injured by my daughter, I would rather be in a situation where my daughter injures herself. She is over 18 years old. She is independent. She is free to do what she wants.

“But in being free to do what you want, this is a message to all children, it doesn’t mean you must indulge in drugs. You have to lead a clean life for you to enjoy the life that God has given you. The law must take its course. I will support any decision that the court will make.

“I wish that there could be a law that whoever is seen doing drugs is incarcerated for a good three months minimum and rehab starts while they are in prison.”

Mliswa’s daughter was arrested with her boyfriend Tawanda Chigudu in Avonlea, Harare. The crystal meth weighed approximately 1.30 grammes with a street value of ZWL$195 000.
