Police provincial spokesperson for Manicaland Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said that it is important that these remains be identified, adding that it helps the relatives of the deceased to find solace after having lost a loved one.

“It is a procedure that we take, so that we give people a chance to try and identify their relatives and give them a decent burial. If no one turns up for the identification process, then we will be left with no choice but to perform a pauper’s burial on the deceased,” he said.

The human skull and remains were discovered recently by two game rangers who were on patrol in the park. The rangers discovered a pair of blue jean trousers and a pair of white sneakers and just close to these clothes was a skull and some bones.

Suspecting that these were human remains, the two immediately alerted ZRP Nyanga. Police then attended the scene and the results from Nyanga District Hospital confirmed that the skull and bones were indeed those of a human being.

Police are now appealing to the public to come and identify the clothes in their attempt to establish the identity of the deceased.
