SLOUGH, UK – A 36 year old Zimbabwean man will next month appear at the Reading Crown Court facing charges of driving his BMW (316) vehicle without a drivers’ licence and valid insurance.

Nehanda Radio understands Slough Council worker Owen Mukotekwa, of Carmarthen Road, Baylis, Slough, was stopped by police in Wellington Street, on April 24 this yearand found in possession of a driving licence belonging to someone else.
Mukotekwa is also accused of being in possession of a false insurance certificate, with intent to deceive. He will appear in court on the 4th of October.
Under UK laws if you’re caught driving a vehicle you’re not insured to drive, the police can give you a fixed penalty of £300 and 6 penalty points. If the case goes to court you could get a maximum fine of £5,000.
Driving without a valid licence on the other hand will get you a penalty of 3-6 points and a maximum fine of £1000. The court can also issue a driving ban which stops you from obtaining a driver’s licence for a set period in the future.
It means Mukotekwa’s two charges could see him get 9-12 points if he is convicted. The matter going to court suggests he is prepared to enter a defence or at the very least plead against an automatic driving ban, which would be triggered by getting up to 12 points on your licence.
