MUDZI – For years’ militants loyal to President Robert Mugabe have got away with threatening villagers in remote rural areas of Zimbabwe. But now thanks to new media technologies, brave Nehanda Radio Citizen Reporters are now able to capture these threats.

In this exclusive audio, two war vets in the Masika Village of Mudzi West (Mashonaland East Province) can be heard threatening a war if Zanu PF and President Robert Mugabe lose elections set for July 31 this year.
In the audio clip, the first speaker is a war vet known as Chikohwa, who tells the villagers attending a Zanu PF meeting that on July 31 everyone in the area should go and sign a register with the village head Chimedza at 6am before voting.
He warns that anyone in the village who does not go to sign that book, “we will know that you are not one of us.” Chikohwa reminds them that during the Zanu PF primary elections last month this was the same procedure before the vote.
He also tells the villagers he is a former soldier who fought the war in the DRC in 1997 when Mugabe sent troops to help his ally Laurent Kabila. He tells them war is not a pleasant experience and they should vote Zanu PF to avoid it.
In the clip, the second speaker a war vet known as Muzunga claims the MDC is training bandits to fight and kill them, so they have to kill to defend themselves. He says he is not afraid of killing because he is already “a dead man walking.”
Now you have the power to tell the world what is happening in your area, send pictures and videos.
