Mtukudzi dedicates ‘Svovi’ song for Tsvangirai

By Staff Reporter

Music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi was the main attraction at a wedding reception for Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Elizabeth Macheka and dedicated his song ‘Svovi’ for the ‘Premier’ couple when it came to their special dance.

Ironically several DJ’s who work for the state media and the new Zanu PF aligned stations played music at the Prime Minister’s wedding. Strutting their stuff were DJ’s Kudzi Marudza, Witness Matema and Tendai Chakanyuka seen here with ICT Minister and MDC-T National Organising Secretary Nelson Chamisa

A former lover of the PM, Locardia Karimatsenga sought a court injunction from a Zanu PF dominated court system and on Friday succeeded in getting the (27 August 2012) marriage licence revoked on the basis that she was still customarily married to the PM.

The Zanu PF controlled state radio, TV and print media went all out to sabotage the wedding on Saturday, claiming it had been called off after a Magistrates Court cancelled it. This was despite the court only cancelling the (Chapter 37, now 5:11) marriage licence, leaving the PM free to marry under customary law.

Mtukudzi appeared to join the debate telling those gathered at the wedding reception that “What God has put together, no man can destroy or take away.” Tsvangirai also hit back at his critics and political rivals.

Tsvangirai said “Some have a chain of wives and some took other people’s spouses. So what is my issue? Uyu ndakapfimba ndega, ndikaroora ndega and ndichafa naye. Zvichemo zvinoenda nekuna mai ava ndivo amai venyu.”

Responding to Karimatsenga and the court ban, Tsvangirai said: “Munhu haapihwe mukadzi ne court; haapihwe ne newspaper. Ini ndangoti hangu kana munhu aine dhimoni anoguma odya mwana.”

As expected President Robert Mugabe boycotted the ceremony which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara and the Prime Minister of Swaziland Barnabas Dlamini.

Explaining his decision to marry Macheka Tsvangirai said:

“Mudzimu kana ichiuya kumhuri, ino pinda, yogara pane munhu yonzwa kuti apa hapana hana apa. Yoenda kune umwe futi yotsvaga, yoti apa hatimbowirirana, yoenda kune umwe yoti apa tasvika manje. Ndozvandaita ini Richard Morgan Tsvangirai, ndamhara pane uyu, ndobva ndati ndzivo.”

Tsvangirai was essentially saying he had a right to date several women until he found the one that he was compatible with. He also appeared to have a dig at Karimatsenga saying she was not someone you could trust with secrets and appeared to be possessed by demons.
