MUREHWA- A Murehwa man allegedly sought a buyer for the heads of his wife and son in exchange for a Mercedes Benz. The man, Valentine Chafutuka (22), has since appeared in court facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
He was not formally charged when he appeared before regional magistrate Fadzai Mthombeni. Chafutuka was remanded in custody to January 24 this year.
Prosecutor Sidwell Kanzete alleges that on January 2 this year at around 11am, Chafutuka approached one Wise Mutenda at Roadport in Harare and proposed a deal with him. The two who were meeting for the first time exchanged contact numbers, it is alleged.
On the same day at around 7pm, Chafutuka sent a text message to Mutenda which read, “What’s up the deal if u successes (sic) i wil give you $3 000, i have 2 head of people nid a buyer find a buyer only, u make money reply asp.”
Translated to mean, “What’s up? There is a deal, if you succeed I will give you US$3 000. I have two heads of people . I need a buyer, find a buyer only, you will make money. Reply as soon as possible.”
Mutenda promptly made a police report and they arranged a trap in which Abdul Sapa masqueraded as the buyer of the human heads. On January 9 this year, Chafutuka met with Mutenda and Sapa at Eastgate and he took them to his rural home in Murehwa, it is alleged.
Upon arrival, he allegedly took his wife Nyaradzo Mazvidziva and his seven-year-old son for sell to Sapa in exchange for cash and a Mercedes E320 he was driving. Detectives who were carrying out surveillance intercepted Sapa’s vehicle as they were driving towards Harare and arrested Chafutuka.
