Dynamos gun down Gunners in ZAOGA shield

Dynamos sealed their place in the final of the Zaoga Golden Jubilee Charity Shield with a clinical destruction of Premiership champions Gunners at Rufaro on Sunday.

Rarely have Dynamos posted a big win over Gunners since Chando Kupisa burst onto the top-flight scene. But on Sunday DeMbare roared back to crush Gunners and set up a date against old enemies Highlanders in the final.

Dynamos coach Elvis Chiweshe has always argued that he believes his team’s “real rivals are CAPS United and Highlanders’’ and after dumping Gunners out in convincing fashion, Chuchu may be forgiven for dismissing all the other teams as “mere opponents’’.

DeMbare scored twice in each half after recovering from David Redhiyoni’s fifth-minute strike. Warriors midfielder Ashley Rambanapasi marked his return from injury with a brace while fellow senior team forward Benjamin Marere and striker Evans Gwekwerere weighed in with a goal each to send Gunners packing.

Gunners finished with 10 men following the expulsion of Patrick Makuvaza late in the second half. The two Harare teams were meeting for the second time inside four days after featuring in a 1-1 stalemate in a league fixture at the same venue last Thursday. But the script was re-written yesterday as Dynamos came from a goal down to clinch a comprehensive victory.
