Mugabe stunned as Biti storms out of cabinet

By Fortune Tazvida

Zimbabwe’s octogenarian president Robert Mugabe was left stunned Tuesday when Finance Minister Tendai Biti from the MDC-T party stormed out of a cabinet meeting following heated disagreements on the debt restructuring plan for the country’s troubled central bank.

Biti is reported to have been locked in a ferocious fight with Zanu PF ministers led by Patrick Chinamasa (Justice Ministry) and Simbarashe Mumbengegwi (Foreign Affairs). Only two weeks ago he tangled verbally with the corrupt Mines Minister Obert Mpofu over the looting of diamond wealth in Marange.

Reports say even both Mugabe and Tsvangirai did not expect Biti to walk out of the meeting and were all left speechless. Over the years since independence there has been a culture of ministers bootlicking, if not hero worshipping Mugabe to the ‘Tony Gara’ extent of likening him to Jesus.

Prime Minister Tsvangirai in the end is said to have defended the Finance Minister from his party arguing Zanu PF were guilty of ‘personalizing issues’.
