Zimdancehall star Hwinza survives audacious kidnap attempt in Cape Town

CAPE TOWN – Zimdancehall star Hwinza came to within a whisker of being kidnapped in Cape Town, South Africa, where he reportedly nearly fell victim to a syndicate of shadowy underworld figures in that city who prey on Zimbabwean artists and performers.

Hwinza, who was with his manager, had reportedly travelled to Cape Town from Johannesburg, alongside a promoter only identified as Royce, as he was scheduled to perform at some shows in the Mother City over the weekend.

According to the gossip and showbiz page, Zimcelebs, Hwinza was waylaid by some individuals who tried to grab him and the promoter at the Cape Town International Airport.

However, the chanter and his managed to get away unscathed, escaping instead to an unknown location in the city.

According to a source familiar with the encounter, Hwinza and his manager nearly fell victim to a group of individuals who are the self-appointed security team for the Cape Town Promoters Association.

The hired muscle reportedly demands a protection fee for any gig held in the city. Failure to pay this fee results in disruptive behaviour from the group, which sometimes resorts to violence to get its desired outcomes.

While Hwinza was lucky to escape, the promoter, only known as Royce, was captured, and it is not yet known if he has been released. Hwinza and his manager are yet to comment on the encounter.
