GURUVE, Zimbabwe – Two people were killed Monday night in Bhosha Village in the Magaya area of Guruve, police said, deepening fear in a district hit by a growing series of violent attacks.

The attacks, which began as isolated incidents in October, have escalated into a pattern of nighttime killings with many now calling for the army to be deployed to help the police locate the suspects.

The victims were a mother and her daughter, a Form Three student. Another child survived by hiding under a bed during the attack.

The latest incident brings the number of people killed in the area to 12.

Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the killings and said investigations were underway.

He said further details would be released in due course.

Police have intensified a manhunt for the main suspect, Anymore Zvitsva, 32, who is believed to be working with accomplices.

Fear has spread across the community, forcing many families to abandon their homes and sleep in groups at designated locations.

In some areas, men have organized night patrols to protect women and children as residents await the arrest of those responsible.
