UNITED KINGDOM – English Premier League (EPL) outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers have loaned out Zimbabwe national team star midfielder Tawanda Chirewa to English Championship side Derby County.
Chirewa who signed a contract extension with Wanderers before the loan move, will spend the 2024/25 season with County.
The season long loan move was confirmed by County in a statement.
“Derby County have completed the loan signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Tawanda Chirewa,” wrote the club.
“The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who has represented Zimbabwe at international level, has joined the Rams on loan for the 2024/25 season from the Premier League outfit.”
Chirewa made eight PL appearances for Wolves last season.
The deal comes after the Wolves coach recently hinted a loan move for Chirewa was ideal in order for him to get more game time.
This was during their recent pre-season tour in the United States of America.
Meanwhile, Chirewa was impressive during two of the Warriors’ 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa in June respectively.
The 20-year old even found the net against South Africa, scoring his first goal in the Warriors colours in what was his second international match.
Reflecting on his first Warriors, the attacking midfielder described the goal as amazing and one of the best achievements so far in his career.
Chirewa will be instrumental for the Warriors when they play two AFCON qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon on 6 and 10 September respectively.
