A drone attack claimed by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has killed one person and wounded more than 60 others at Kuwait International Airport, deepening tensions in the Gulf and raising fresh concerns over the future of ceasefire talks between Tehran and Washington.

Kuwaiti authorities said Wednesday’s strike caused damage to diplomatic facilities and described the incident as a serious act of aggression.

The person killed in the attack was later identified as an Indian citizen, prompting condemnation from India’s foreign ministry, which confirmed that several other Indian nationals were among the injured.

New Delhi called for an immediate halt to further attacks, urging all sides to exercise restraint amid the growing regional crisis.

The IRGC said the operation was launched in response to recent US military actions, including strikes on an Iranian oil tanker and targets on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials also claimed that American military facilities in the Gulf were targeted during the operation.

Earlier, the US military said it had carried out what it described as defensive strikes against Iranian assets and had intercepted missiles launched towards Kuwait and Bahrain.

According to US Central Command (Centcom), three Iranian attack drones aimed at civilian shipping in regional waters were also destroyed.

Centcom further reported that two missiles fired at Kuwait and three aimed at Bahrain either broke apart mid-flight or were intercepted before reaching their targets.

The latest confrontation follows a US operation against a Botswana-flagged oil tanker that Washington said was heading towards Iran in violation of a naval blockade imposed on the Strait of Hormuz in April.

The vessel was disabled after allegedly ignoring repeated warnings from US forces.

Iran responded by warning that interference with shipping and security in the strategic waterway would have serious consequences.

Tehran also accused the governments of Kuwait and Bahrain of bearing responsibility for recent military actions against Iran because of the presence of US military facilities in both countries.

The violence comes as diplomatic efforts to formalise a ceasefire remain stalled.

US President Donald Trump has insisted that Iran wants a deal and suggested progress is being made on discussions related to Tehran’s nuclear programme. However, Iranian officials have accused Washington of repeatedly changing its demands during negotiations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that any future sanctions relief for Iran would remain tied to conditions surrounding its nuclear activities, maintaining that the conflict itself had effectively ended despite continuing regional hostilities.
