Zimbabwean comedy powerhouse King Kandoro, born Mukudzei Kandoro Majoni, launched the United Kingdom leg of his State of the Nation comedy tour in Birmingham last weekend, delivering a sold‑out performance that left audiences raving and critics praising his exceptional command of the craft.
The Birmingham show — energetic, polished and expertly paced — marked a triumphant beginning to a tour that will take the celebrated comedian across major UK cities.
Kandoro’s magnetic stage presence, razor‑sharp timing and unmatched storytelling flair set a remarkably high benchmark for the shows to follow.

Reflecting on his journey, Kandoro said comedy had always been an undeniable part of his identity.
“As a profession, my career started in 2015, but I believe I’ve always been a comedian,” he said. “It’s the one consistent thing I would get told either by relatives or at school. It’s the number one reason I was getting into trouble.”
The evening opened with a vibrant warm‑up set by DJ Paddy Watts, followed by support from Eric Max Powers, collectively building a lively atmosphere before the main act took to the stage.
A Stellar Start to the UK Tour
Speaking after the show, Kandoro described the evening as an overwhelmingly positive start to the UK leg of his tour.
“The Birmingham show was a great start to the UK leg of the State of the Nation tour,” he said. “I was worried that the show being on a Friday would present logistical nightmares. But the majority of the audience managed to make it to the show on time.
“The energy in the room was pure. I felt there was genuine excitement and eagerness to participate in a Zimbabwe‑centric comedy show.”

He continued with a promise to audiences nationwide:
“What I can promise to everyone else coming to the show is raw honesty. We are going to laugh a lot, but we are also going to be honest about the state of the nation. Whatever that means, haha.”
A Fearless Voice Taking Zimbabwean Humour to the World
Throughout the night, Kandoro showcased the brilliantly observant and audacious style that has made him one of Zimbabwe’s most dynamic, most influential and undeniably funniest comedic exports.

His set explored topical issues from Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom and across the world, blending satire with pinpoint punchlines that had the audience erupting throughout.
He also weaved in light‑hearted references to social media conversations back home, including jokes about businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, whose spree of gifting cars “like confetti” has been a national talking point.
Kandoro teased whether he might accept one himself, earning roaring laughter.
Audience Reaction and Industry Praise
Audience members expressed overwhelming praise following the performance.
“What a show! What a comedian! Thank you for a great time. #MrSoldout,” said attendee Shamiso Mangwana.

Another spectator, Joan Chipungu, described her experience as “ecstatic”.
“I’ve always been your biggest fan, only watching you online. Coming to your show for the first time and sitting right in front was honestly ecstatic,” she said.
“My first Zim comedian comedy show experience was truly exceptional. My sister is not usually into comedy, but she kept saying, ‘haaaa uyu anonakidza!’”

Veteran UK‑based Master of Ceremony Peter Soxx also gave the show his seal of approval.
A respected figure within entertainment circles, Soxx applauded Kandoro’s delivery, crowd control and “world‑class comedic instinct”, describing the Birmingham event as “a brilliantly executed night of laughter led by a truly gifted performer.”
