HARARE – Former CAPS United and Kaizer Chiefs forward Brian Abbas Amidu and ex-Dynamos defender Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga were arrested on Monday for alleged drug possession.
Police confirmed that the two were apprehended along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway while transporting a large consignment of dagga (mbanje) reportedly destined for Harare.
The pair was travelling in a silver Honda Shuttle when they were intercepted by law enforcement officers.

According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on X, officers recovered 750kg of dagga with an estimated street value of US$75,000 from the vehicle.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of soccer players Tumai Matsika, also known as Abbas Amidu (29), and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga (41), for drug trafficking.
“The two were found in possession of 750kg of dagga valued at US$75,000 in a silver Honda Shuttle, registration number AGP 6776, along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway on 03/10/25,” the police said.



This is not the first time Zimbabwean footballers have been implicated in drug-related offenses.
Former Highlanders player Winston Mhango and Yadah striker Jerry Chipangura were previously arrested on similar allegations.
