Sanyatwe pins hopes on Zimbabwe Warriors U-17’s ahead of COSAFA Youth tournament
HARARE – Minister of Sports Anselem Sanyatwe has urged the Zimbabwe Warriors U-17 team to “do the nation proud” ahead of the COSAFA Youth Championship, set to take place from 11 to 20 September in Harare.
The retired Lieutenant General visited the team, currently in camp at Eaglesview School since last Sunday.
The visit was meant to offer his support and words of encouragement.
“I’m here to give you a word of encouragement because you are the chosen ones who will represent Zimbabwe in the upcoming football tournament,” said Sanyatwe.
“So you are here to come up with a formidable team that will make Zimbabwe proud. Do us proud. You have our support and we believe in you. All the best and good luck.”
Sanyatwe was accompanied by his deputy, Minister Emily Jesaya.
Also in attendance were the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Nqobile Magwizi and Secretary General Yvonne Mapika Manwa.
Tournament matches will be played at Ngoni Stadium in Norton and Heart Stadium in Harare.
Speaking to the media, team captain Tadiwa Chakuchichi expressed confidence in the squad’s preparations.
“We’ll try our best to deliver and win the tournament,” he said.
Chakuchichi also called on the nation to rally behind the team, emphasising the importance of fan support.
“I’m pleading with the nation to come and rally behind us because the 12th man is very key in football,” he added.
The winners of this year’s COSAFA U-17 Championship will qualify for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
