HARARE – Orchestra Dendera Kings leader Sulumani Chimbetu has denied making any advances on Zimbabwe’s former first lady, Grace Mugabe, describing reports that he had done so recently as a social media fabrication.

According to unconfirmed social media reports, Sulumani, the son of Dendera music legend Simon Chimbetu, ran into the former first lady during an excursion in Mazowe and immediately professed his desire to get into a relationship with her.

Grace reportedly did not take kindly to his advances and reported him to law enforcement authorities for harassment.

The musician is said to have been subsequently detained following the fiasco. According to the reports, charges against the musician were eventually dropped by the former first lady, leading to his release.

In an interview with ZimLive, Sulumani said the reports were a social media fabrication grounded in fiction.

“I’m just seeing the messages and posts going viral about the allegations. It’s not true. Nothing of that sort has ever happened, and these are just people trying to create content in a bad way,” he said.

Police are yet to offer any comment on the supposed arrest of the musician, while the former first lady has also not yet commented.

Sulumani is married to Linda Samuriwo, to whom he tied the knot in a glitzy ceremony at Zimbali Gardens in 2016.

The musician was previously married to Marigold Mutemasango before he got hitched for a second time.

Linus Kadzere: Celebrating the legacy of a lion-hearted Shumba in Leicester

By Thando Kanye In 2005, Linus “Lee” Kadzere booked Thomas Mapfumo to perform at The Athena, a venue in Leicester that had been closed for over a decade. The US-based Mukanya had only been in the UK for one gig, a birthday celebration, organised by Lee’s wife, Priscilla Kadzere. However, in the midst of his 40th birthday celebration, Lee had a lightbulb moment. Here was his favourite artiste, Mapfumo, performing in the UK for the first time in over three years. Why could he not entice him for more shows in the British Isles, reacquainting him with his Zimbabwean fans? That stroke of genius by a man, known for his business shrewdness and opportunism, kick started a tour which, once it was rolling, somehow found itself at The Athena, a long-abandoned venue in the East Midlands. The Athena, originally founded as an Odeon Cinema in 1936, was convinced to open its doors and there few could have known at the time, Lee had just blown a breath of new life into a venue that had been comatose for over a decade. 18 years later, Mukanya, this time flanked by Mathias Mhere and Sulumani Chimbetu, is set to make a return to The Athena under totally different circumstances.
