“Two points dropped,” says Mapeza after FC Platinum’s goalless draw against Herentals

HARARE – FC Platinum head coach Norman Mapeza expressed disappointment after his side failed to collect maximum points in their goalless draw against Herentals.

The midweek fixture was played at Rufaro Stadium on Wednesday.

Mapeza lamented his team’s lack of clinical finishing, which ultimately saw them share the spoils with the Students despite dominating much of the game.

The Zvishavane based side controlled the match and created several clear cut chances, particularly in the first half.

In-form Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, Oscar Bhebhe, and Jarrison Selemani all came close to opening the scoring.

Bhebhe hit the crossbar just minutes into the match following a close range shot.

Warriors striker, Ngwenya was denied in a one-on-one situation by the Herentals goalkeeper, while Selemani also missed a chance that could have put his side ahead.

Reflecting on the missed opportunities, the former Warriors coach said: “Two points dropped. The reason is simple, we got clear chances in the first half.

“We should have wrapped up the game before halftime.”

Mapeza believes they should have gone into the break with a lead, with the second half now meant to manage the game.

“What happened in the second half was supposed to be game management. Everything should have been done in the first half. So yes, it’s two points dropped for us, because in the first half, Herentals never gave us any problems,” he added.

The FC Platinum coach hopes his players will be more clinical in front of goal in upcoming matches.

The Platinum Miners are facing struggling Dynamos over the weekend as they look to get back to winning ways.
