Pokello’s son Nathan Mutasa drafted into Zimbabwe Warriors squad for COSAFA Cup
HARARE – Scottland Football Club forward Nathan Panashe Mutasa has been drafted into the Zimbabwe senior national team squad for the COSAFA Championship that kicks off tomorrow in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Mutasa, the son of prominent socialite Pokello Nare, replaces Dynamos midfielder Ross Vhusa Ngwenya, whose passport was reportedly not ready in time for the regional tournament.
Although the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has yet to officially announce the change, Mutasa’s last minute inclusion was revealed through his pictures traveling with the squad shared on various social media platforms.
His club also officially announced the 21-year old’s inclusion through a Facebook post, later pulled down probably to allow ZIFA to make the official announcement.
The 21-year-old’s call-up has sparked mixed reactions among football fans with some questioning whether Mutasa deserves the senior national team call up.
Critics have pointed to his limited impact at club level this season, despite earning starts against the league’s big sides such as Dynamos, Chicken Inn and MWOS.
Previously, Mutasa featured for the Young Warriors at the 2018 COSAFA U-17 tournament.
He has also had brief stints in Europe, having signed for French side US Torcy in 2018 and Spanish outfit Ciudad Deportiva del Granada CF in 2023.
The left footed forward joined Scottland as a free agent at the beginning of the 2025 Castle Lager PSL season.
While he is yet to fully establish himself at Mabviravira, he has shown glimpses of potential.
