HARARE – Zimbabwean football giants Dynamos are in turmoil, with the majority of their supporters threatening to boycott all home games starting with Sunday’s match against city rivals CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium.
The turmoil has been fueled by the Moses Maunganidze led executive, which fans deem as incompetent and unprofessional with growing calls for the immediate dismissal of the current leadership.
Social media has been flooded with posts from disgruntled DeMbare supporters, many of whom are urging fellow fans to stay away from the Harare Derby clash.
Instead of attending the match, fans have proposed a solidarity gathering at Joy Centre in Harare, where they plan to braai and share drinks in protest.
At the center of the storm is long time club figure and majority shareholder Bernard Marriot, who continues to face strong criticism over his leadership and the club’s alleged decline.
Dynamos legends Memory Mucherahowa and Murape Murape have publicly joined the bandwagon of discontent.
Both posting on Facebook, Murape said: “I’m not bitter about no longer working at Dynamos, but bitter about how the club has been run down.
“We stand with Genuine and Real Dynamos Supporters. I am one of the former Dynamos players who has spoken out against Bernard Marriot’s leadership.
“I am not bitter about no longer working at the club, I have a small business and a good job that takes care of my family.
“Instead, I am bitter about the way the team has been run down by the club’s leadership. My love and passion for Dynamos are genuine and that’s why I am speaking out.
“Serving Dynamos came with sacrifices and some of us are now living with disabilities because of it and we are still owed a lot of money which we have not demanded back out of respect for the club.
“During my time, I often expressed concerns about his leadership style, warning him that appointing the wrong people for the wrong reasons would lead the team to oblivion.
“However, instead of listening, I was framed and pushed out for highlighting issues that needed fixing.
“The way he hates former players of the club makes you wonder if he really played football for the club and the way he mis-treated Richard Chihoro (MHDSRIP), his closest ally for over 40 years, speaks volumes about his character.
“But we want accountability and transparency, not empty promises. Our concerns are valid and we won’t be silenced.
“At the end of the day, we just want to see our former team evolving, growing, and thriving, not stuck in stagnation.
“Dynamos is more than just a team to me, it’s my family and I will always want the best for it.”
Mucherahowa also said: “Ndopatigere pano Mambo. Mr Marriot, dzorerai team iyi kuvanhu, ndivo varidzi. Mbudzi yekuba inonetsa kufudza mudhara wangu.”
In response to the crisis, Marriot has reportedly invited leaders of various supporters’ chapters to a crisis meeting in a bid to contain the unrest.
