HARARE – Dynamos returnee Denver Mukamba was the talk of the town all weekend. The former Zimbabwe Warriors skipper dominated both newspaper headlines and social media chatter.
This was after he delivered a sensational late winner against his former club, Scottland, at a packed Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.
Affectionately known as Mundikumbuke, Mukamba had DeMbare fans on their feet when he unleashed a superb left-footed volley that left Scottland goalkeeper Kelvin Shangiwa helpless, sealing a dramatic comeback victory for the Glamour Boys.
What made the moment even sweeter was the context.
Dynamos had come from behind and it was Mukamba, once offloaded by Scottland at the start of the season, who came off the bench to sink his former paymasters in the dying minutes of the game.
For many supporters, Mukamba’s goal felt like a ‘revenge’ for being offloaded.
He played a pivotal role in helping Scottland earn promotion to the top flight league last season, only to be released before the start of the current campaign.
Since that stunning strike, Mukamba has been the name on everyone’s lips.
From the back pages of Zimbabwe’s biggest newspapers to the buzzing corridors of social media.
He stole the spotlight.
Not even Winky D or Jah Prayzah who both hosted shows in Harare later that evening, managed to generate as much online hype as the midfield maestro.
In a surprising twist, Scottland owner and gold dealer, Scott Sakupwanya handed Mukamba US$1,000 in cash after the match.

The gesture was either out of respect, shock or mistaken belief Mukamba still wore Scottland colors.
Undoubtedly, on Saturday, Sakupwanya regretted letting the playmaker go as he once again reminded Zimbabweans he is still a game-changer.
Speaking after the match, Mukamba said: “I’m feeling very happy today that I scored the winning goal for Dynamos.”
Mukamba reunited with Dynamos in July during the mid season transfer window after spending six months without a club.
