HARARE – Zimbabwean musician Dr Tawanda, real name Tawanda Kasaira, has asked for well-wishers to come to his rescue, after a recent accident left him bedridden and unable to afford the surgery that he needs to undergo in South Africa.
The award winning artist broke his hand, ribs, and sustained head injuries during a horrific accident.
In an interview with H-Metro, Dr Tawanda revealed that he needed money for surgery he hoped would put him back on stage soon.
“The accident occurred on March 6, in Mutare and I sustained serious injuries on my ribs, my hand, and the head. The hand broke and I need surgical treatment. So, it’s true that I am looking for help for me to go to South Africa for treatment.
“If I get around US$500 to 1000, that will help me treat the injury,” he said.
Dr Tawanda revealed that the accident occurred while he was on his way from visiting his children at school.
“It happened in Mutare when I was coming from seeing my children at school. I was in the company of my relatives, and we all survived but with serious injuries.”
He also expressed his fear that he would no longer be his old self again even after his recovery.
“But now I am down, remember, being an artist you have to be visible throughout. I am not able to work properly due to the injuries. I am bedridden and it’s hard for me to do my usual duties,” he said.
