HARARE – Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) vice president Loveness Mukura has expressed strong confidence in the Mighty Warriors ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers scheduled for next week, saying “this is the cream of the nation.”
Mukura, a former Herentals Queens star and administrator, addressed the team on Thursday at Prince Edward School where it was holding its training session.
“We have a strong and formidable team. I believe we will play together, encourage one another, and win. In football, be each other’s keeper. You are carrying the national flag, so go and do your best. This is the cream of the nation,” she said.

ZIFA vice president and veteran football administrator Kenny Ndebele echoed the same sentiments, inspiring the Mighty Warriors with his confidence.
“You are champions. I’m confident you will bring us a win. We are ready to travel to Morocco for the WAFCON finals,” he said.
Also present, was ZIFA board member Kudzai Kadzombe, a strong advocate for the advancement of women’s football.

Mighty Warriors head coach Sithethelelwe ‘Kwinji 15’ Sibanda expressed gratitude to the new ZIFA board, led by president Nqobile Magwizi, for their support.
“I would love to express my gratitude to the new ZIFA board. They have been very supportive since day one,” said Sibanda.
She added: “The girls have been working very hard, and the team spirit is high. My technical team and I are united in our mission, there is no reason why we can’t deliver a positive result.”
Sibanda’s squad comprising of quite a number of experienced players, features key players, including Israel-based striker Ruvimbo Mucherera, Ennety Chemhere, Ethel Chinyerere, Christabel Katona, Egness Tumbare, and veterans Emmaculate Msipa and Rutendo Makore.
Zimbabwe will face Angola in the first round of the WAFCON qualifiers.
The first leg is scheduled for February 20 in Luanda, with the return leg set for February 26 at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
