Initially, the competition was organised as a four-nations tournament, but South Africa withdrew despite having confirmed participation earlier.

Updating the nation on the revised tournament and confirming the Mighty Warriors’ involvement, ZIFA vice-president Loveness Mukura recently said:

“I can confirm that the Mighty Warriors will play in a three-team, high-profile tournament featuring Zambia and hosts Malawi in Lilongwe from November 29 to December 2. South Africa pulled out, so the teams are now three.

“We are definitely thrilled with the development. The games will be played at Bingu National Stadium, and as ZIFA, we are excited to be sending our senior women’s team to this contest.

“Our primary objective is to ensure the girls get game time. They haven’t played much football this year. We were hoping they would participate in the COSAFA Women’s Championships, but that tournament will only take place next year.

“So, we have decided to enter them in the tournament in Malawi, and we are happy with that.”

The Mighty Warriors will be hoping to put on a strong showing, having last played competitive football several months ago when they participated in the COSAFA Women’s Championship.
