HARARE – Popular Afro-Dancehall female singer Nisha Ts real name, Anisha Tashinga Shonhiwa, has dispelled assumptions and rumours that she is a lesbian or a tomboy due to her choice of dressing.
The Admire Kadembo singer said she has a boyfriend, and her choice of dressing was influenced by the way she was brought up.
“Yes, I am in a relationship. I have a boyfriend, why not? Ndi Mhofu,” said Nisha during an interview on the Ollah 7 Podcast.
Nisha is known for dressing in male apparel, mostly baggy jeans and oversized T-shirts, as well as having a good taste in style sneakers.
“Growing up, people used to say I behave and talk like a boy, because my voice has a bass. I always liked wearing trousers and shorts. I am not gay, I just love this style of dressing,” she added.
She went on to explain that as a child, she was never allowed to put on trousers and shorts at home, but she always had a burning desire to wear trousers; she found the liberty to dress in that style when she moved to town.
“I was raised by my grandmother, who never allowed us to wear trousers. I’d only wear trousers at school, and I always had the desire to wear trousers.
“I then had the liberty to wear whatever I wanted when I grew up and came to town, that’s why I dress like this,” explained Nisha Ts.
