The family of South African musician Doc Shebeleza is in distress over his health, amid revelations that the Kwaito legend has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Johannesburg hospital due to an unknown illness.
This is the second time that Shebeleza has found himself hospitalised this year. In June, the legendary artist was reported to have been hospitalised after another health scare.
The hospitalisation of the 51-year-old musician was confirmed by family spokesperson Shakes Mavundla.
“Mzansi, please put our kwaito legend, businessman, Amaha chairperson in your good blessed prayers, who continues to assist the poorest of the poorest in our beautiful country,” said.
Mavundla claimed that Shebeleza’s illness had come as a surprise. The musician is set to undergo surgery on Monday.
“I’m shocked, as he was looking happy and healthy and preparing for the Aboguluvala event in Soweto but we are hopeful he will make it after the operation Doc Shebeleza.”
Meanwhile, a family member who spoke to Zimoja said they were now putting faith in prayer.
“We just need prayers for a speedy recovery, we will keep everyone posted on the progress of his health and we just don’t want to say too much at this stage,” said the family member.
A close friend of the musician said that he had been in and out of hospital over the last few months.
“He has not been well for sometime but it was nothing that could get him hospitalised for too long,” the friend said. “But he will be okay, he is getting the necessary medical care.”
