South African Kwaito legend Doc Shebeleza (51) passed away today (Thursday) in the morning at his home in Fairlands, north of Johannesburg.
The Soweto-born singer whose real name was Victor Bogopane was hospitalised in December, when he underwent surgery.
Nehanda Radio reported this week that the Ebumnandini hitmaker was scheduled to undergo another surgery on Monday next week.
Doc Shebeleza is survived by his mother, children and siblings.
Eugene Mthethwa a member of the iconic kwaito group Trompies, said Shebeleza was a man who was there for others when they were in need.
“It is saddening to see at the end of his journey he was the one who was pleading and nobody came through. And probably now there are so many that are calling, saying they want to come and help, but they were not able to help in the time of need.”
His manager, Shakes Mavundla, said that the 90s hitmaker was not only a musician but a philanthropist who cared for the good of his community.
“He helped many people in the community. He built people houses and bought children school uniforms and he gave grandmothers food parcels.”
