“This is the end of the road for me” – Chidimma Adetshina quits the ramp after Miss Universe success
Model Chidimma Adetshina has announced that she is quitting pageantry, despite the success she enjoyed at the recent Miss Universe pageant were she emerged as the runner up.
The former Miss South Africa candidate represented Nigeria at the recently held beauty contest and emerged as Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.
The run up to the contest was not smooth for the Soweto born beauty, as questions about her identity continued.
In a statement, Adetshina revealed that she was now quitting the ramp and would instead focus on her studies.
“As much as I would like to explore more, but I think this is just the end of the road. And I am really proud of where I got to and feel that not only did I make myself proud but also made Nigeria proud and Africa proud.
“So this is the end of the road and I’m hoping that I get to further my studies and to better myself. And do good things in Nigeria and establish myself,” she said.
Adetshina had been studying law at the Varsity College in Cape Town when she entered for Miss South Africa earlier this year.
South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs in October revealed that it would be cancelling her travel and identity documents including those of her Mozambican-born mother, after they failed to justify why they should keep them.
The department told a parliamentary portfolio committee that the pair was also possibly facing fraud charges.
Adetshina’s case reached Parliament in August when the public questioned her heritage and nationality after she became a finalist in the Miss SA pageant.
