“Levels, Ribhe na Fantan” is a popular catchphrase in Zimdancehall music songs. The three Chillspot Records co-founders however now have a shameful charge sheet that includes allegations of leaked tapes, domestic violence and rape.
When Chillspot producer DJ Ribhe appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court last week on charges of reportedly raping a minor, it lengthened the list of allegations that have been labelled against the popular record label over the past few years.
Ribhe found himself in the line of fire last week, after revelations that he had not only drugged a the 14-year-old Form Two girl, but had also raped overnight while she was unconscious.
While the DJ is expected to be back in court on 14 November to answer to those allegations, his case has only added to the history of legal woes that Chillspot has faced over the last few years alone.
In 2022, DJ Levels came under fire for revenge porn, was then charged with violating some sections of the Data Protection Act which prohibits transmission of intimate images without consent. This was after a sex tape involving his former flame, Shashl, leaked on social media.
After failing to convince Shashl to reconcile with him after their split, the DJ had allegedly threatened her with unspecified actions, saying she would regret her decision, leading to the belief that he had leaked the tape.
Shashl also accused her ex-boyfriend of rape, allegations which she later withdrew.
That same year, fellow Chillspot kingpin DJ Fantan appeared in court for domestic violence.
The DJ, who had damaged his wife’s kitchen utensils that she wanted to use to start her canteen business in Stodart, Mbare, Harare, was charged with malicious damage to property.
Allegations are that DJ Fantan started emotionally abusing his wife and damaging household property which included a teapot, cups, wine glasses, plastic dishes, plates and jugs all worth US$250 and left home.
The DJ went on his rampage because he allegedly wanted her to remain unemployed and be a housewife.
