HARARE – Barely two weeks after receiving a new Toyota Fortuner as a gift from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo, the late legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi’s widow Daisy, has been involved in a car accident.
Images circulating on social media reveal that the accident occurred at the Warren Park roundabout in Harare. The car has been significantly damaged on the left side, especially the passenger door.
Daisy, Mtukudzi’s second wife and stepmother to Selmor and Sandra, has been at the centre of a public storm following allegations by her stepdaughters of emotional abuse during their childhood.
Interestingly, yesterday (Wednesday) Talent Madungwe, who is also a beneficiary of Chivayo’s vehicle donations, was sentenced by the Epworth Magistrates’ Court for violating the Road Traffic Act. He was found guilty of driving without a valid license and negligent driving.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2024, when Madungwe sideswiped a Nissan NP300 single cab while turning right out of his home.
The Nissan was travelling along Airport Road towards Harare’s central business district. Fortunately, the damage was minor, with only the load box sustaining damage.
Madungwe received a wholly suspended 4-month imprisonment for driving without a valid license, provided he doesn’t commit any negligent driving offenses within five years.
For the second count, he received a six-month imprisonment sentence, with three months suspended for five years.
The remaining three months were suspended on condition that he completes 105 hours of community service.
Chivayo yesterday gifted a luxury vehicle to Joseph Mhaka, a longtime friend. The gift, a 2023 Bentley Bentayga V8, is valued at approximately US$500,000.
The businessman has been donating millions in cash and vehicles to Zanu-PF members and musicians, including Jah Prayzah, Sulumani Chimbetu and Sandra Ndebele.
However, Chivayo’s source of wealth is controversial. The ex-convict was allegedly paid more than US$100 million in a controversial Zimbabwe Electoral Commission deal to supply election material for the 2023 harmonised elections.
