Promising youngster Junior Bunjira finally saw his name being written on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) scoresheet for the first time since completing his move to CAPS United at the beginning of the 2024 campaign.
It comes after he opened his account for CAPS United in a thrilling 3-2 victory over their arch-rivals Highlanders, at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Bunjira, who is known mostly for his pace, crosses and providing assists, this time found the back of the net.
He headed home in the 84th minute to level the score to 2-2 after Highlanders had taken the lead in the first half.
Lynoth Chikuhwa scored a brace in the first half to give Bosso the lead while William Manondo pulled one back from the penalty spot as the visitors went to half time leading 2-1.
Bunjira’s moment came and he scored to level matters before hero of the day Lot Chiwunga sealed the victory.
The veteran striker’s stoppage time goal secured the victory for CAPS United following a dramatic come back.
Reacting to the victory, CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe said: “We are happy with the result. We were also desperate for it. I think it’s good for the team because it brings so much to it.
Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu said: “I think this is one of the most painful losses that we have encountered. We started well and we managed to score two goals and I thought we were in the driving seat. But the game changed; we lost focus in the way that we defended.
“I think before the end of the first half when CAPS United were given that penalty we lost a bit of concentration. Everybody thought that the ball had hit the player on the face.
“But football being what it is, we should be able to defend our lead but CAPS United came out stronger in the second half.”
The victory saw Makepekepe breaking a five year jinx having last defeated Bosso in a league match in 2019.
