Belgium based winger Bill Antonio has begun his road to recovery, five months after suffering a serious injury.
Antonio has been out of action since March after sustaining an injury on his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
However, on Tuesday KV Mechelen took to their social media platforms to give a positive update on the 21-year-old speedy winger.
The club announced the ex-Dynamos star is “now in the fifth month of his rehabilitation” also indicating that “the cheerful Zimbabwean resumed his individual running and cross-country training this week and is very much looking forward to his return.”
The club added: “However, that will still have to wait a while.”
Initially, Antonio was ruled out for six to nine months, his club confirmed in March giving the verdict of his injury.
“The verdict is heavy. Bill Antonio tore his ACL on the field at Cercle Brugge, and will not be in action this season. He has a revalidation of 6 to 9 months,” confirmed the Belgian Pro League side.
The injury was a major setback for the Prince Edward Academy graduate who at the time, was enjoying his form since his elevation to Mechelen’s senior team from the club’s under-21s.
Following his impressive performances, Mechelen handed Antonio a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.
“Bill Antonio extends his contract Behind the Barracks. The 21-year-old flanker will continue to shine in the yellow-red colors for a little longer,” they said after the contract extension.
Before the injury setback, Antonio had scored three goals in as many games.
