Zimbabwean gospel musician Takesure Zamar has withdrawn from the Harare leg of Kirk Franklin and Maverick City’s Kingdom Gospel Tour, citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for his decision to remove himself from the bill.
It is unclear whether Zamar’s decision to pull out is in any way linked to allegations that Franklin’s recent performances, including a much-criticised duet with Will Smith, have been “ungodly”.
In April, Franklin faced similar accusations after another performance that gospel lovers felt was too raunchy. Franklin and Maverick City are set to perform in Harare on 12 August.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Takesure Zamar Ncube and the Worship Addicts will no longer participate in the upcoming Maverick City tour to Zimbabwe as earlier advertised. We thank you for your continued support. God bless you,” read the post announcing Zamar’s pullout.
Event director, Pastor Lyncolin Kapswara confirmed the development.
“As he mentioned himself, there were unforeseen circumstances. Preparations are moving along as planned. As with any event, there are always hiccups along the way, but we are happy with the progress we have made,” he said.
Pastor Kapswara announced that more acts would be announced to fill the gap left by Zamar.
“We will be making an announcement in the next few days.”
