Amir Mhaka: Teen accused of leaking nudes of Mai TT’s daughter freed
HARARE – Amir Mhaka, the 19-year-old accused of leaking nude pictures of Mai TT’s daughter in what was thought to be a case of revenge porn, was last week freed after the state dropped all charges against him.
Mhaka was accused of leaking Felisha “Fifi” Muzeya’s nude pictures, in an incident that caught the nation’s attention and brought back the issue of revenge porn and its damaging nature, particularly to the girl child.
The State had alleged that Muzeya and Mhaka started dating online in 2020 where they shared nude pictures until they cut ties in April 2022.
Mhaka allegedly threatened to expose the images on social media to spite her.
He was detained at Highlands Police Station and charged under the Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 12:07) as read with Section 164E of the Criminal Law Codification & Reform Act (Chapter 9:07), which prohibits the collection, transfer, sharing, or broadcasting of intimate images or videos without the consent of the person involved.
Amir appeared before magistrate, Ruth Moyo, last Thursday where the State applied to have the charges withdrawn before plea, due to lack of evidence.
Previously, it had been alleged that Mhaka had used the pictures to extort money from his ex-girlfriend after their breakup in 2022.
“She sent her nude pictures several times to the accused person. Soon after the break-up, the accused person started sending text messages threatening to expose the nudes on social platforms if she cut ties with him.
The text messages prompted the complainant to keep him close as a friend. On 18 March 2023, the complainant started dating Charles Nyahokwe and the accused person found out.
“He was not happy with it and started sending Charles Nyahokwe some disparaging things about the complainant.
On the 9th of April 2024, at around 2100 hours, the complainant’s sister, Tanatswa Mutikani, told the complainant that there were nude pictures of her trending on social media.
The pictures were the ones she had sent to Amir Mhaka. She was so sure that she had sent them only to Amir when they were still dating,” the court heard in April.
