HARARE – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga marked his 68th birthday yesterday, and his wife, Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, took to social media to pen a heartfelt tribute to her husband.

In a post on Facebook, Miniyothabo extolled the virtues of her husband, describing him as a selfless, God-fearing, principled, and cheerful giver. She also praised his leadership qualities, noting that he is a “loyal son of Zimbabwe” and a “promoter of our culture and values.”

The Vice President’s wife also shared personal anecdotes, revealing how her husband’s influence has made her a better person.

“I’m happy I got a chance to share this life with you. I’m now a better person in many ways, and I continue to learn as much as I can from you,” she wrote.

Miniyothabo’s tribute was filled with affection and admiration, as she affectionately referred to her husband as “munhu wangu” (my person).

She also expressed her gratitude for his love and support, saying “Ngikuthanda thandi my guy, ingawe lento” (I love you so much, my guy, you are the best).

The post was accompanied by a series of photos of the former Army General.

Chiwenga’s birthday was also celebrated by various political leaders and party loyalists, who took to social media to wish him a happy birthday.

Chiwenga tied the knot with his wife Colonel Baloyi at the St Gerard Catholic Church in Borrowdale in December last year in the presence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his wife, First Lady Auxillia.

The marriage followed Chiwenga’s acrimonious divorce from Marry Mubaiwa, whom he had accused of attempting to kill him.

In November 2017, during his time as the Commander of the National Army, Chiwenga led the military to overthrow then President Robert Mugabe.

Mnangagwa was then installed leader after a dramatic coup that ended Mugabe’s 37 unsuccessful leadership.
