Zimbabwe senior national team centre forward Macauley Bonne is set to leave English League Two outfit Gillingham FC following the expiration of his contract.
Bonne who joined Gillingham in August 2023 after his deal with his former paymasters Charlton Athletic expired, will not be offered a new deal.
The Gillis as Gillingham is nicknamed, took to its social media platforms to announce Bonne’s departure.
The 28-year old will be released along with seven other players who have been deemed as excess baggage by Gillis who recently appointed former Cambridge United coach Mark Bonner.
Also on the list, is the England born Zimbabwean teenage forward Ronald Sithole who signed his first professional deal with the club in 2023.
“The following players will be leaving the club on expiration of their current contracts:
“Shaun Williams, Macauley Bonne, Ike Orji, Matty Macarthur, Josh Chambers, Ronald Sithole, Kieron Agbebi and Nathan Harvey,” the club wrote.
The Ipswich- born nomadic forward Bonne could be part of the Warriors’ squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers scheduled for next month.
Zimbabwe will play Lesotho on 7 June and South Africa on 11 June. All games will be hosted in South Africa.
Bonne was part of the Warriors squad that participated in the Four Nations tournament that was organised by the ZIFA Normalization Committee (NC) held in Malawi in March.
He scored his first Warriors goal when Zimbabwe played Zambia and drew 2-2 before winning 6-5 on penalties.
