GWERU – Former Dynamos FC coach Herbert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa has dumped Northern Region Division One outfit Harare City to join Premier Soccer League returnees Telone FC.
Maruwa who was enjoying an unbeaten run with the Sunshine Boys, winning six and drawing one, was unveiled by the Gweru based side on Thursday.
Jompano as Maruwa is nicknamed, replaces Tendai Chikuni who was sacked by Telone earlier this week.
The former Black Rhinos’ coach’s appointment by Telone sees his return to the top flight league nearly a year after he was fired by Dynamos.
The Harare giants showed Maruwa the exit door in August 2023 following a streak of poor results.
Through their statement, Dynamos cited “inconsistency of results” in sacking Maruwa who had served as the club’s coach for only seven months.
Maruwa’s first assignment is against reigning champions Ngezi Platinum Stars on Saturday at Baobab Stadium.
