LILONGWE – The Zimbabwe national team Under-20 side, the Young Warriors suffered a 3-2 defeat to Malawi U-20s on Wednesday afternoon at the Silver Stadium in Malawi.

This was the opening match of a three nations tournament organised for the upcoming football stars in the ongoing March international break ending next week.

The first half ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Malawi’s Madalitso Safuli scored in the 31st minute to break the deadlock, but ten minutes later, Young Warriors’ star Denzel Mapuwa cancelled the goal.

The second half began with Malawi a more hungrier side.

Emmanuel Saviel scored two quick goals in the 57th and 58th minute to restore the Flames lead.

Once again, in the 63rd minute the 19-year-old Green Fuel forward Mapuwa pulled one back but it was not enough.

The Young Warriors will play Kenya in their next fixture of the round robin tournament running until 26 March.
