HARARE – Rufaro Stadium, the iconic football venue in Mbare, Harare could provisionally be allowed to host Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches again after a nearly five-year hiatus.

This would be a welcome development for football fans in Harare who are missing football in their town after stadiums in the capital were condemned.

While full approval of Rufaro is still pending, PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare is optimistic that the stadium will be ready for use when the league resumes after the international break.

“We are hoping Rufaro Stadium would have been given the go-ahead to host PSL matches by the time we have the matchday 3 fixtures played on 28-29 March,” said Bare.

“As far as I know, the stadium hasn’t been approved, but we are hoping it would have passed by the time we resume PSL games, that is why we provisionally put it on the fixtures list.”

The move would also provide much-needed relief for Harare’s PSL teams who are traveling to other towns including Gweru to fulfill their fixtures.

These teams namely; CAPS United, Dynamos, Herentals and Yadah FC have been using the National Sports Stadium, but the giant facility is currently undergoing renovations.
