Reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Ngezi Platinum Stars, have announced the establishment of a women’s team, Ngezi Platinum Queens.
The club’s decision aligns with CAF’s Club Licensing requirements as well as its own “ambitions for sustainable growth and empowering young girls”.
According to the club, Ngezi Platinum Queens will compete in the Northern Region Women’s League.
The Mhondoro based side announced the new development in a statement issued on Thursday.
“Ngezi Platinum Stars Football Club is pleased to announce the registration of Ngezi Platinum Queens Football Club with the Northern Region Women’s League,” reads part of the statement.
The club also revealed that it is actively assembling a technical team to identify talent for the new side.
“The process of assembling the technical team which will be tasked with talent identification is on-going.
“This process should be complete by the end of March when the Northern Region Women’s League season kicks-off. In the long term, Ngezi Platinum Stars FC is focused on building a total sporting Club with significant presence in most sporting codes in Zimbabwe.
“Developing women’s football is not just about achieving equality; it is about tapping into a pool of untapped talent, inspiring future generations of young girls to dream big, break barriers and shatter stereotypes.”
This comes after CAF Club Licensing Senior Manager, Muhammad Sidat instructed teams set to participate in CAF competitions to form women’s sides to ensure their participation.
It is also in line with what the CAF President Patrice Motsepe said is his ambition during his tenure.
He said: “In the period of my presidency, I want women’s football to be significantly growing, progressing and prospering.”
