Zimdancehall legend Winky D celebrates 20 years of musical dominence

Zimdancehall legend Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, celebrated his 20-year musical reign this weekend with a spectacular performance at the Castle Lager National Braai Day.

After missing the Castle National Braai Day last year due to unknown circumstances, Winky D returned to his Braai Fest reign with an incredible performance on Saturday night.

He dedicated his performance to his fans, thanking them for their unwavering support, dedication, and love throughout his nearly two-decade career.

“Old Hararians you see me, next year I will be turning 20 years in the music industry.

“Two decades of excellence, it couldn’t be possible without you. Your love, your support I want to thank you.

“Without you there is no Winky D, you build Winky D,” the singer expressed his gratitude.

Following his thanks, Winky D took his audience on a nostalgic journey by performing classic songs from his early career, including “Ndiri Rasta,” “Vanhu Vakuru,” and “Rokesheni.”

“Can I take you back,” Winky D’s plea to take the Castle Lager National Braai Day was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.

His artistry, words, and faultless execution captivated the audience, transforming the night into a euphoric sing-along session as thousands of fans passionately sang along word for word to his several hit songs.

Winky D’s two-decade career has not been without its difficulties.

He has encountered and overcome several challenges, including attempts to silence him as a result of his outspoken criticism of corruption, social injustice, and poor governance.

In his fearless pursuit of speaking truth to power, Winky D occasionally shines light on the political, economic, and socioeconomic issues of the youth through his songs.

After releasing his exciting album, “Eureka Eureka,” loaded with political connotations and implications that speak truth to power, Winky D was even blacklisted from state-run radio and television stations.

Nonetheless, his dedication, talent, and undying fan support have made him an unstoppable force in the industry.

Other musical talents who played at the Castle Lager National Braai Day were Enzo Ishall, Tamy Moyo, Dhadza D, and artists from Chill Spot Records, who all gave memorable and spectacular performances, making the event an amazing and exciting concert.
