Gilroy Takudzwa Chimwemwe officially joins DRC giants TP Mazembe
Ex-Harare City full back Gilroy Takudzwa Chimwemwe has officially joined the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants TP Mazembe after impressing during a trial stint with the club recently.
Multiple reports last week indicated Chimwemwe who has been unattached after his contract with Zambian premier league side Nkana FC expired in December was on the brink of joining the fading African giants.
This was after the 30-year-old impressed when Mazembe played and beat Blessing FC 4-0 last week in Kamalondo during a friendly match.
Chimwemwe was unveiled by the club over the weekend.
Speaking to H-Metro after completing his move to the five time African champions, Chimwemwe said:
“I’m so excited to have joined and to be playing in DRC. This is like a dream come true for me. TP are a big club recognized in Africa.
“And to be part of a team like that is something big for me as a player.”
He added: “Playing in the Confederation Cup will be something I’m looking forward to.
“I managed to play some games when I was still with Nkana, and I’m looking forward to playing more.
“It is my wish to win accolades with them. And I can’t wait to earn my place in the team and become a regular.”
