United-States based Warriors defender Teenage Hadebe (26) has expressed his delight after his side Houston Dynamo recorded their first win of the season.
The Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit handed visitors Vancouver Whitecaps a 2-1 defeat at the PNC Stadium on Sunday to collect their first set of maximum points in the early stages of the season.
At the moment, Dynamo have played three games in the ongoing 2022 season, managing one win, one draw and one defeat.
They drew second placed Real Salt Lake in their opening match and suffered a 2-1 defeat away to eighth placed FC Dallas before they finally won against Vancouve in their last MLS fixture.
These results have left them seated on ninth position on the log standings with four points in the MLS Western Conference league competition that comprises of 14 teams.
Nonetheless, the season is still in its premature stage since it kickstarted on February 26 and is set to conclude on October 9.
Speaking to Nehanda Radio from his base in the US, Hadebe who has seen little game time this season owing to a nagging ankle injury he sustained in January said he is elated by his team’s first win of the season.
“I am very happy we finally managed to earn our first win of the season last Sunday. It’s good and motivational recording a win in football,” he said.
Hadebe has started on a low this season despite finishing on a high note in the previous campaign which was also his debut season in the MLS.
He bagged two accolades being picked winner of the Defender of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards.
But this season the former Bantu Rovers star has started on the bench in all the three games the Orange Crush has played.
The Zimbabwean international was an unused substitute in the first two games before he featured in the dying minutes of last Sunday’s victory over Vancouver.
The gangly defender who once took to his Facebook account soon after the AFCON finals indicating he played with broken ankle ligaments said he is progressively recovering well from the injury set back.
“At AFCON I played with broken ankle ligaments so at times when I continue to use the (injured) leg the ankle gets swollen. But I am getting better each day, the progress towards the recovery is massive.
“I believe very soon I might regain my full fitness,” said the 26-year-old ex-Highlanders centre back.
The Texas based side are being guided by their new coach Paulo Nagamura whom they hired in January to replace Tab Ramos who acquired Hadebe from Turkey.
In their next league match, Dynamo will play hosts to fourth placed Colorado on Sunday at the PNC Stadium in Houston, Texas. Nehanda Radio
