State exhausts evidence against Marry Mubaiwa after calling 12 witnesses

Marry Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa is set to file for her client’s discharge after the State on Tuesday closed its case against Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife.

The State exhausted evidence against the former model after calling 12 witnesses including the former Army General. The accused’s lawyer, Mtetwa said she will file her client’s application for discharge by Friday.

Chiwenga accuses Mubaiwa of trying to upgrade their customary marriage by forging his signature without his knowledge while he was sick in South Africa sometime in 2019, charges she denies. She is also facing attempted murder of the VP, money laundering, fraud and assault charges.

The couple is going through a messy divorce process which has led to Mubaiwa being barred from seeing their three children for two years now.

Mubaiwa is suffering from severe lymphoedema and spontaneous formation of abscesses whose origins have not been determined. Her passport was grabbed by the court as part of bail conditions. She therefore can’t travel outside Zimbabwe to seek treatment.

Mtetwa has already indicated that her client may end up having one of her hands amputated if she does not get the treatment that she desperately needs.

On Monday, Mubaiwa collapsed at the Harare Magistrates Court for the third time while she was attending the continuation of her trial. Nehanda Radio
